Preview: AAU Memorial Day Classic

The AAU Memorial Day Classic takes place May 25-27 at ESPN Wide World of Sports
ORLANDO, Fla. (May 21, 2024) – Summer is fast approaching, and as we reach the end of May it can mean only one thing. The AAU Memorial Day Classic is upon us, more than 3,500 basketball athletes will be at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. A precursor to this summer’s AAU Basketball World Championships, the Memorial Day Classic is going to be a tournament you won't want to miss.
From May 25-27, 344 teams will take to the courts in both boys’ and girls’ action. Many teams are local to Florida, and squads from California, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nevada, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Puerto Rico will also be competing.
This year marks the 13th edition of the AAU Memorial Day Classic. There will be 18 age groups, 2nd grade – 12th grade on the boy’s side and 6th grade – 12th grade on the girl’s side. A number of winning squads from last year's event will be back to defend their title this year, including three multi-division champions with Handle Life, Wellington Wolves, and Florida All-Stars.
“We believe this is one of the premier annual youth basketball tournaments,” said Jo Mirza, AAU President. “We’re excited to once again partner with ESPN Wide World of Sports to host the event, as there’s no better place for our young athletes to feel like professionals.”
